The most f****d up thing

Just came across an accident and saw an overturned car right in the middle of the road. Do you think anyone out of the 8 cars or so would even get out to investigate? Nope

So, i hop out of my car and go over to the flipped over car where i see someone trying to get out of the passenger side. I help the hysterical young lady out of the car and she's screaming about her baby! Oh fuck, i think to myself as i'm following her running around the car. I'm thinking the kid was thrown from the car but she's trying to get into the back door. Fuck it, i go back around to the passenger side and crawl on my back into the back seat where there she is....hanging upside down in her baby seat crying. I finally get that fucking belt and pad assembly off and she plops on my chest. She finally stops crying as i'm worming my way out of the car.

I say, all that drama took a few moments and you know what? Not a single person exited their vehicles and i was the one who had to call the cops.

Fucking people......do they just freeze up with shit like this?

Scorched Earth 11-03-2006 11:07 PM

Tripper 11-04-2006 12:05 AM

Well done, you're strong willed.

There is a 'scientific' term for a situation like that, where everyone avoids the responsibility of going out of there way for someone else, assuming that someone else will handle it....

Its more subconscious than that, its going to continue to happen regardless of any single situation.

Thank god we have no-bullshit types like Arkan out there for cases like this one.

Arkan 11-04-2006 12:37 AM

Thanks for the kind words fellas.

Tripper is right. It's called "Fight or flight". To be honest, this is the second time i witnessed that. Hopefully when my ass needs help, the right people will be there.

Interesting. And no, not all people do! Little less than a year ago I was driving in my home town and came across an overturned car. I parked on the side and ran up to help. Then about 4 or so other men came and we lifted the car off the guy (not the smartest thing to do at the time, but yeah...). The boy, only 15 driving without a license, was pretty fucked up. Had to wait a few minutes until ambulences and the fire dept came.

My jeans got all bloody too mad: My favorite pair! heh

That's pretty nuts. Umm, if that kind of thing happened here in Manhattan, people within the public would definitely be concerned. Good work in helping out the young lady and her child Arkan. You get much respect from me.

GG.

ninty 11-04-2006 03:57 PM

Good job Arkan. Need more people like you around.

It seems like a lot of people are only really concerned about themselves. I don't think this is anything new, it just kind of human nature, which is sad.

But good on you. You know you did the right thing and thats all that matters. I hope that if I were in the same situation I'd do the same as you.

+1

Pyro 11-04-2006 06:05 PM

Awesome job Arkan...

Doctor Duffy 11-04-2006 06:48 PM

Edit: No I didnt.

anti 11-04-2006 07:13 PM

arkan, good job. i'm not trying to undermine your good behaviour, but i think this situation is more reflective on the lack of humanity now a days.

and maybe the fact other people like bosses won't think helping someone warrants lets say being late for work or anything else.

Arkan 11-04-2006 09:39 PM

Hey fellas, thanks again for the kind words. I just didn't think about it until after the fact. Really couldn't believe everyone was just sitting in their cars. God only knows if that car was on fire or something.....i still would've went in after that baby.

CoMaToSe 11-04-2006 09:47 PM

Arkan, were 'Chuck Norris' jokes still in style, I would write a page of similar ones for you.

Sgt>Stackem 11-06-2006 07:57 AM

good job Arkin, if I was there I would have helped!!

Poseidon 11-06-2006 08:31 AM

Great job man, Great job. If only the world had more people like you in it. I've never been in a simular posiiton before (and hopefully never will) but if I was i'm confident i'd be helping the people to safety.

Seriously what'd the other people do? Just stop and watch you struggle like their in a fucking cinema? Sick bastards.

CoMaToSe 11-06-2006 09:33 AM

I suppose in a way I can understand the psychology of people who 'stand and watch' rather than help. You never know what you're going to do in a situation like that, so it's a good idea not to make a judgement call until you yourself have been there.

Doctor Duffy 11-06-2006 07:33 PM

If Arkan and me fucked we would produce the epitome of the human species
