Computer+lightning

If your computer is hit by lightning what is probably the fix for it? A friend of mine has changed out the power supply already and it boots up but shows nothing on the screen, Is there any hope for the comp? Does he need a new motherboard and cpu? Any replies are appreciated.

Sindonesia 08-28-2002 06:45 PM

Excuse me for repeating but, your friends computer got hit by lightning?

Sindonesia 08-28-2002 06:54 PM

I guess through the power line or telephone line, not sure on that.

FRIED COMPUTER MMMMMMMM MMMMMM GOOD

Sindonesia 08-28-2002 06:56 PM

Is there any fix, other than getting another comp.?

ninty 08-28-2002 06:59 PM

Oh, that makes a little more sense. I thought you meant he was walking with it and it got struck or something. oOo:

Anyway, I'm not a computer genious, but any kind of electricity is not good for your computer.

A friend and I were working on my computer once in my room and there was carpet on the floor which created static electricity which burnt my motherboard out. I had to buy a whole new one. Kinda shitty. So if your friends computer got zapped with 1.21 jiggawatts (heh, back to the future) I bet there is a lot of stuff wrong inside there. I wouldn't be suprised if the motherboard/cup was toast.

Take it in and get it looked at. The professionals will tell you what you need to replace, if not the entire unit.

A lightning bolt can carry more than 1 billion volts...sorry don't think there is much hope for the computer ed:

Sindonesia 08-28-2002 07:01 PM

Thats what I thought.

Old Reliable 08-28-2002 07:02 PM

Well first things...open up the computer...if you can't notice any damage, go to best buy or someplace like that

Sindonesia 08-28-2002 07:05 PM

That is the reason I'm asking here, trying to save him some money. They want to charge him a arm and a leg just to look at it.

ninty 08-28-2002 07:05 PM

Warranty?

SW-14 08-28-2002 07:06 PM

Yep, I bet it's fried. My tv once got taken out by lightning.

Sindonesia 08-28-2002 07:06 PM

It boots up but there is no picture on the monitor.
