Default Frames per second - 01-30-2003, 05:36 PM

So can someone explain why games have so many frames per second? If we humans cant see so many then why do games have like 100 frames per second? Is it to run the game smooth? or does it somehow strain the eyes less? Anybody have a realistic answer?

Well, we can't notice more than 60 FPS (or something like that) so, I think more is just there to be there. I look at it as +60 FPS=longer for it to fall to have a noticable change in speed.

We can see about 30-50 fps ... anything above that is just for reaction time, viewing complex animation, reaction time in video games, and a safe guard just incase we are using a lot of CPU so that our fps don't drop too low.

The human eye cannot detect a difference in FPS over 57. That's why Doom III is capped at 69, or 60 whichever.
