The only thing that made Sabbath good was Iomii, Ozzy Osbourne may be one of the worst musicians of all time, the only thing that made him good was the Guitarists around him, i.e. Iomii, Jackson, Wylde

comming from a classical background, may I ask if any of these musicians you all idolize know anything about theory or what they actually are doing? I might go into music composition in college, and i was wondering if these guys were atually 'that smart' to make their music. Right now, I've taken 2 years of Music theory in my highschool. We've analyzed alot of music and it seems to me that none of these guys were great.

But don't get me wrong here...I'm not dissing any of these guitarists or whathaveyou. Sometimes, it's the simplist stuff that sounds the best to the ear--that's why alot of you can play much of your favorite songs. Tabs has also helped the spread of the music to the average person. I'm big into jazz and I mostly like them as musicians because they all know theory behind chords and countless modes/scales/cliches/phrases that they use in improvisations. Not too many people can play solos of the great jazz musicians. Again, don't get me wrong. I was just wondering if these guys really know what they are playing.

Pat Metheny is jazz, and he's amazing, check him out. i like Dream Theater because their music is in-depth, complex, meaningful, and incredibly talented. check em both out.
