Because the whole game is about war, and war is about shooting people, and when you shoot people, they bleed. Thats simple enough, isn't it?

I'd rather have some blood than see each individual leaf on a tree. If they can do the leaves AND the blood, great, but I wouldn't sacrifice blood for ANYTHING. Most FPS's don't.
