Communism really was never the enemy, it was just an excuse to call the USSR an enemy. And vice versa.

Tripper which two countrys in the Axis of Evil do you refer, the only one I see mentioned is Iran.

Russia hasn't had much luck singing pacts like this in the past.

here's my inane theory: This pact is made, then Nato and the east nato merge together to become one powerful world government. then the apocalypse happens. There is a belief that the world will end after a world government is formed and the head of that world government is supposed to be the anti-christ. Of course its just a theory
