Default Digital SLR question - 11-27-2006, 06:38 PM

Ok I know a number of you have Digital SLR's. Currently I own a Fujifilm S5100 4MP with extra magnifier lenses and filters with a few extra things that I want to sell. Essentially i want to use the money to buy a digital SLR. Currently im looking at the Nikon D-series either the 50 or 70s, the canon Rebel XTS or the Olympus E500. What are your suggestions?

My D50 was an excellent buy. I'd recommend it.

d70sssssssssss. d70 is the d50 but a bit beefed up, most important thing is that it has two dials for shutter and fstop; but on the flipside you could buy a d50 body for cheaper and use the extra cash to buy a better lens.

i was in the same situation. i went with the d50 for a few reasons. it was cheaper and was fine for what i was going to use it for. the d70s (at the time) was just coming out and was backordered for months, so i just went for the d50. i like it a lot except the response time is a bit slow.

anti, what lens do you recommend for the d50? i have the one it came with (18-55mm) and a 55-200mm zoom lens. i also own an old nikkor macro lens. i was looking for a lens that could produce pics similar to yours. i wanted a fisheye, but i saw the price and said fuck that shit. im looking at a wide angle lens right now....what do you suggest?

wide angles are still going to run alot of money. there's really only the category of suepr wide angles and just wide zooms which your 15-55 would be. super wide angles are usually in the 10-20 or 12-24 range and will fuck you in the ass in terms of price. fisheyes are expensive yeah, but if you look around you can get them kinda cheap (i got my sigma 15mm fisheye on ebay for about 300 brand new). tokina make the cheapest and best overall super wide 12-24; that would be your best bet.

for a starter i would get a sigma 18-200. my brother has one and i'm impressed what you get for such a cheap price. it gets pretty wide and the zooms pretty far.

i cant really see the point in buying a 28mm if you already have a lens that covers that range?
