The bullet hit something, richoched straight back, skipped off the ground and hit the ear protectors. If you watch the vid when you hear the whistling sound you can see something hit the ground in front of the rifle

but whats the correct angle to have it come straight back? it would seem to have to hit it squarely, which would clearly NOT make it bounce back, it would just disintegrate. You can clearly hear it hit the metal target, so maybe it glanced off that at like a 90 degree, then hit something else at the perfect angle to turn it the rest of the 90 degrees... seems so unlikely, but i cant think of any other way that could happen.. hmmm

it doesn't have to go straight back. In fact, bullets fired from a gun don't travel in a straight line. they travel in an arc. so likely the ricochet sent the bullet in a large arc upward is what i would guess.
