I had to put my dog down. it sucked. he was blind deaf and had a bad limp. His name was Amos. I called him Hellen Keller.

My fiance's parents just put their 17yr old cat to sleep yesterday. Stomach cancer. Poor thing.

They're pretty upset, but it was the best thing for the animal.

[quote="Short Hand":3ac7a]wow, do we all have fucking pets that die of cancer here ?[/quote:3ac7a]

I think so oOo:

My last pet was a border collie, best dog ever (but I'm biased of course!), we had to get him put down around 7 years ago, he was 13 and had prostate cancer.

I just put my little baby girl to sleep in May, sadest thing ive ever had to do in my whole life, I was there when they put her to sleep, i was holding her little paw to comfort her. I couldnt bare to do it again, i didnt want to be there but i knew she would be calmer if i was. They injected her, her eyes were still open, i thought that the injection wasnt working, so i wasnt really bawling my eyes out yet, until the doctor put the littke stetehscope to her heart and he was like "shes gone" i lost it, i couldnt stop crying for about 2 hours, the car ride back to my house from the vet with her in my lap was by far the sadest thing. The song "Tuesdays gone" by Lynard Skynard was on the radio when we were taking her to the vet, by chance the day she was put t sleep was on a tuesday. So everytime i hear that song i get a little misty. It was a pancreatic cancer that was killing her, one day she was fine, they next day she couldnt eat or drink.

I dont know what it is with dogs and cancer, youd think they could die of natural causes more often to give them a painless death but cancer in dogs seems really common.

Just to add to all of this, I too had a 13 year old dog called Bonnie and while I was in America I was informed via email that she had to be put down because of cancer. She was such a fantastic dog, was always nice to everyone and wagging her tail she'd come to sit next to you whenever you sat down. In a way I'm glad I wasn't there to say my goodbyes to her as I would've gotten in an awful state, even reading about what happened to her had me crying for hours.. she'll always be missed, poor thing.

People who don't understand why owners get so upset about their pets passing away have generally never had a pet before, its seriously like losing a member of the family as you grow up with them. So I know how you feel dude..

Well we took him to the vet today, but we decided to pay for some more tests to make sure its definately cancer. Did a fungal test and thats negative, a blood test was done today too. We're taking him in on monday for a biopsy, that will determine if he has nasal carsinoma. At least we have him for another week. we took him out for a walk and were out for a bit, he didnt seem sick at all, so that helped us to decide to take more tests.

My Springer Spaniel died this past Monday, he was going to turn 13 in February... I had left for the weekend and came back Sunday night to find out he had broke his rear right leg and couldnt get around to drink or eat and he wouldnt take any food and water if you sat it right in front of him and seemed to be in a minor state of shock as he would grunt suddenly and his whole body would jump.. Got home Monday afternoon from school and found out my uncle had buried him just a few hours before I was released from school..
