localization help -
10-20-2002, 05:01 PM
Hello, I have tried everthing posted in the forums, checked alliedassault.com and various other resources, and still cannot get my message of the day to display properly.
Instead of "Press fire to join the battle!", this is what we'd like displayed:
Through me is the way into the suffering city/
Through me is the way to the eternal pain/
Through me is the way that runs among the lost./
Justice moved my lofty maker,/
I was forged by the divine Power,/
The supreme Wisdom, and the primal Love./
Before me were no things created,/
Save the eternal, and eternal I shall endure./
Abandon all hope, ye who enter here./
These are the Gates of Hell. The battle awaits.
I don't think that this is too long, but that might be the problem. I have tried cutting it down to only 4 lines, used \n to make the new lines, etc, but nothing has seemed to work thus far. It still keeps cutting parts off, and adds a ? to the end. I've seen servers with really long MOTD's, so I don't think that's the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I had to cut the crap outta mine because it was too long. And it wasn't nearly as long as yours. So I would say, yes, it's too long. But also, replace the \n with \r. In the localization files \r represents carriage returns.

Ok so I tried cutting it down a bit, and addes \r instead of \n, but it still cuts it off and adds a ? to the end. How long can I make it anyways? Any idea? Well, thanks for the help. I'll mess around with it some more. Any other suggestions?

I think part of your problem is the /
I don't think it would read anything pass the 1st /
It should see everything after the 1st / as a rem statement and ignore it.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hey, thanks to everyone who's posted. I've been trying numerous things, and still no luck. Rudedog, I took you up on your offer, so check your inbox for the loc.txt. Thanks again, and if anyone else has any ideas post them here please.

Sent you the file back. Your limited by the number of characters.
I tested it and it worked. I did however leave the press fire to enter text after your 3-4 lines.
let me know if you have any more problems
