Default A Script To Log Chat - 10-28-2002, 08:26 PM

Is it possible to create a mod that would monitor the chat/kill messages displayed at the top of the screen and log them? Just the chat/kill messages, not the console.

See, the thing is, XGameServers.com (my host) runs their servers as services on NT/Win2k. Something about that causes the frag lines and chat messages to be exluded from the console log. I've tried every combination of logfile/developer setting I could come up with and still nothing.

So I was thinking, since all this other great stuff is possible that Scorpian, DogMeat and other great scripters have come up with, maybe it's just as possible to create a dump MOD to log just chat/kill messages.

I would really appreciate some help here. I'm desperate. cry:

pretty sure that 'developer mode' excludes kills/chat from the log.
goto the aestats homepage and check the documentation as it will tell you what settings you need to use to get the logfile working for that MoH stats program.

LOL

That seems to be what everyone misunderstands. The assumption is that all versions of the server will output the obits/frag lines. However, since this is being run as a service it gets ommited. Comes up as localization errors and nothing else.

I've tried setting developer to 1, 2, and 3; setting logfile to 1, 2, and 3 and a few other tricks. Nothing.

So now the only option I have left is to see if I can write a script that catches all of the chat/kill messages and outputs them to a logfile.

I appreciate your candor, but are you positive that's the case? It seems to me that if you can script a server-side mod to display text anywhere on the screen then you can script a mod to catch all text within a chat window (f6).

Besides, having it run as a service is more practical for a host as when the machine boots it starts with the machine without the need for someone to be logged on. This is a big deal especially when servers tend to crash (and anyone who knows MS and NT knows it will).

Someone must have an idea of how this can be done.
