Well, actually, I played around with the saturation, put in a subtle gradient, and did some various blurring and whatnot. Here it is without the flag. I should probably touch up the blending between the guys and such, but I'm in a hurry. Maybe later.

I did something similar, it just looks better to add a few things than have a plain background
