HELP! All of a sudden I cannot connect to any servers -
11-22-2002, 01:17 AM
HELP!!! I have been playing this for almost a year with no problems (since the demo) and all of a sudden tonight I cannot connect to a single server. It keeps timing out. Anyone ever heard of this? Is lamespy having a problem today? I see plenty of other players in games. So I think it may be somewhere in the Internet between me and gamespy or some such thing. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

Whats you ping.. About week ago ATT was routing me to the moon and back, I was lucky to connect to a game. And if I did my ping was 200 - 400.

ya i had this problem last night. I couldnt get into my server by typing the IP in the console. I had to get in from the ingame browser and GS worked too. But today it seems fine. Hmmm?
Oh ya make sure when you use the in game browser that you click on the filter button a make sure dedicated servers is unchecked and you should be able to see a lot more servers.

Thanks for the responses. I show about 1600 servers in the in game browser. Pings start at 32 at the top of the list. Tried gamespy directly and had the same result: timed out.

What if you use the in-game browser?

Cannot connect to any server listed in the in game browser.
I did a tracert to see if I am being routed to the moon and back like Low Spark was. However, my ping is still great (some servers show 26 ms). I don't know if my results were good or bad. 18 hops.
Tracing route to gamespy.com [207.38.1.105] over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 16 ms 17 ms 20 ms 10.30.32.1

Does this tell us anything useful?

You are going to laugh!
I think I figured it out.
I recently set up a dedicated server here and set up port forwarding on my router. So the ports that MoH needs were forwarded to the server. LOL! I could have sworn I had connected to other servers since setting up the port forwarding on the router, but apparently not! I removed the forwarding and set up port triggering instead. Now I can connect again! Not yet sure how this will affect the server, but I think it should be fine.
Go ahead, make fun of me!
Thanks for all the help everyone, and sorry for the wild goose chase.
Now my only problem is that Optimum Online / CableVision my cable provider seems to be limiting my bandwidth. I.e. 48 minutes into HOSTING a game on my dedicated server, they decide I have been using too much bandwidth and reset my connection, completely cutting off internet access for a couple minutes and disconnecting everyone in the game connected from outside the LAN!
I spoke with a buddy that works at CableVision and he said they do stuff like that and that I may have to sign up for more expensive business service to prevent that. So for now I am not even bothering to run the server.

P.S. it's a shame too, cuz it's a $6000 server with dual-Pentium 4 Xeons, 1 Gig RAMBUS memory, ultra dma 160 scsi hard drive, etc. can handle large numbers of players for the 48 minutes before they cut off my internet!
