no gefArce fx till april -

[quote:70e8a]GeForce FX In April 03?
Merrill Lynch is reporting to investors that the NV30 won’t ship until the April quarter, and even then, it will be the low rent part, at first. Given that NVIDIA, according to themselves, will not have a card out until February if everything goes perfect, it stands to reason that somewhere in the middle is highly likely. So with Merrill Lynch reporting to investors that the part might not be here until after that….and performance compromises reducing “compatibility risks” this is getting weirder by the minute. Thanks to Jason Stokes for the hook up.
The first order of business for NVIDIA is to get NV30 off the ground. Though we picked up product specifics at the launch on Monday, we had a chance to get more detail on the timing of the ramp and remaining challenges yesterday. As expected, NVDIA has chosen not to use low-k dielectric on the NV-30, a decision which involves some performance compromises but also lowers the risk of any manufacturing miscues. With the part now qualified, waiting on system integrators to finish boards is the issue – that clearly is not going to happen until the April quarter.
It will be very important for NVIDIA to successfully ramp the lower-cost versions of NV3X in time to hit the April 2003 quarter, however. The successful launch of the high-end part will not be enough to support a revenue upturn in the April quarter. Management was not willing to answer questions about whether additional versions of NV3X have taped out, although the intention to hit the April quarter was reiterated during our conversation.
Remember, even if this report is considered worst case scenario, and what NVIDIA is saying being best case scenario, anywhere between the two is probably the most likely what will happen....Are you ready?

Music to my ears. 3dfx got fucked by nvidia because of nvidia's bullshit hype and the delay of the vsa 100 chip. NOW we have the first nvidia card which 3dfx engineers have worked on and its overall gonna be approx SIX months late. Kinda ironiic dontcha think. evil:
Ahh now to find some nvidia forums to troll. evil:

What with the vendetta against nvidia? Better video cards help all gamers and without nidia, ATI would probably stick it to gamers for all they could.

nvidia said $400 retail. Just like ati. Supply and demand. And when the new nvidia comes out the gf4 series will drop like a rock. This is much like the gamespy arguement. This is business, not charity. Now, you may have a point, but ATI and other companies are stepping up to provide competition to nvidia. Mainly because they see how profitable it can be. But that is what capitalism is all about. If nvidia wasn't so much better for so long, they wouldnt be the only ones around until recently.

nvidia said $500 retail, $400 is for the lower performing versions but the full speed geforce fx is starting retail at $499.

Hell, if it wasn't for nVIDIA, the ATI cards would be horribly slow and our games wouldn't be near as good because there wouldn't be any video card that could handle it. Without nVIDIA, ATI would have no major company to compete with.

Yup 3dfx pioneered 3d acceleration, without them we still might be using old style 2mb cards.

Ahhh - is 499 such a ridiculous number when you factor in hom much better than a 9700 Pro ($399) it performs?
Ahhhh - if Gamespot wasn't such a fucking joke, I could post the comparative specs of a 9700 and a FX.

Gotya. I'm sticking with my GF4 for awhile, at least until they release a card 2X better than mine. I made the mistake of buying the GF3 at full price, $395, then selling it for $310 and getting the GF4 Ti4600 for full price again, $440. I spent an extra $100 for 11FPS in MOHAA. hake:
