Default Strange Spearhead Slowdowns - 11-23-2002, 09:22 AM

When I play spearhead, my frame rate is very smooth - at least in the beginning. After a minute or two everything gets choppy, even in places that were smooth before ! Anyone ever encountered this problem ?
I've completely optimized my system but still it begins to run at 5 fps after three minutes.
My specs :
P4 1.4 GhZ
512 MB RDRAM/Rambus
GF4MX 420@440 64 mb DDR
Sb Live

My gameplay is choppy all the time...but that was expected from my P.O.S. machine.

Ive had those same problems then i got powerstrip (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm) and it solved everything. It oc's yur video card and do a bunch of stuff with it and makes SH run 30% better. Just install and rite click the system tray icon and goto performance profiles and then configure and move yur clock speeds up by 5 on both (have to stay together) until yur screen starts to act wierd, then go back a few until all is good. Then SH fps will run about 20 frames faster in all areas. Dont worry about wrecking yur card or anything. Its completely safe. Just read all the info on it if yur afraid. But ive used it forever.

Yeah but we shouldn't have to overclock our cards to get it to run smoothely. I have a top of the line system and it still runs in the yellow/red sometimes. As for MP, some maps fun maxed out fps, and some run in the yello/red when the action heats up. Bad design if you ask me.

Same as Hollywood here. SP FPs is low . MP is okay on some maps unless there are a lot of players and then it drops down into the yellow, goes into the red during firefights which of course makes it very choppy and hard to play just when you need good performance. Kinda reminds me of the old vauum windsheild wipers they used to put on cars, when you stomped down to pass someone they stopped. biggrin:

The Quake III Engine is not meant for big maps...or outside.

Now, if they used the Unreal 2 Engine...

biggrin:

I have a p4 1.7, 512 Rambus Ram, and a geforce ti 4600 and I get massive fps slowdowns on the Berlin map and occasionally other maps, like you say, same are may start fine then suddenly craps out.

Anyone notice that going down ladders is different also?

I did everything, hell, I even updated the mo'bo's BIOS, the IDE drivers ( Intel App Accelerator ), even did registry tweaks, ( Powerstrip on the system for few months now ), disabled vsync, still works like crap. I think it's the code, not the system.

Make sure u turn off all anti-virus programs and online messengers like AIM when you play. This has a great impact on the game and you should notice a big difference.

I have 2.4ghz 768DDR Ti4200 and was choppy as hell on MOHAA, but after I close McAffee VirusScan it works smooth on highest res.

its slow cuz look at how much stuff is going on. Especially on D-Day. There are planes flying, mortar shells exploading, guns blasting, flaks shooting, and a lot of other things.
