Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers..
The movie was about bugs.
The book is a long philosophical discussions about citizenship, government, and sociology,

I saw a lot of very good books so far and agree with many. Most of the classics are called that for a reason.

A couple more:

Dune - great sci-fi book in its own right with an underlying messiah complex. The rest of the series is good, even the stuff done by herberts son, but pales compared to the first

Enders Game - Excellent book, standalone first book of an otherwise lackluster series, but very much worth a read

Arthurs I like include:

Micheal Creighton (sp?) - his books are always way better than his movies. Once you skip the ten pages where he tries to impress you with his knowledge, the story is always good.

Raymond Fiest - if you like fantasy, he does a good job

Hemingway, Fualkner, Poe, L'amour (complete mind candy, but good in the deer stand)

I only read novels that I know ill like, like The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, WWII books, etc.

Shadows of the Empire rocked, even if you aren't a big Star Wars fan.

Well there has been several books here that are certainly on my list of favorite novels. I have read most Kings, Ambroses, Tolkien, Twaines, Hemingways, Fitzgeralds, Lewis, Thompson, etc.. books at one time in my life.

Here's a couple more I read a long time ago:
"Born on the 4th of July"
"All quiet on the Western Front"
"Five Fingers"

Unfortunetly studying/reading scientific literature for the past 10 years has turned me off completely from pleasure reading. I think I have tuned my brain for reading only reference and scientific journals. Pretty bleak!

I still have no problem with Playboy and Rolling stone though. cool:
