Default localization.txt editing on SpearHead - 12-22-2002, 08:16 PM

anyone crack the localization.txt problem with spearhead yet? i had edited my localization.txt file for allied assault to include a message at game connection (to replace "Press Fire to Join the Battle") and also used bazooka joe's swear filter.

i tried using the same technique for spearhead (creating a global directory, copying the localization.txt file into that directory and making the needed changes), but is doesn't work.

i'm not sure where to go from here. has anyone had any luck doing this yet? i want to change the "Press Fire to Join the Battle" message upon connection and also install a swear filter, but i haven't been able to figure it out.

i've already done some testing and of course got nothing out of it . . . i've created a standalone localization.txt file and put it in its own pk3 file with no luck. i've updated the localization.txt file in pak2.pk3 with no luck, i've copied the localization.txt file into /mainta/global/ and that didn't work. i've edited localize.cfg, put that in a pk3 file still no luck and also edited the standalone localize.cfg with no luck.

if anyone has any ideas about where to go from here or if you've already figured this one out, please let me know!!!!! i've been trying to get this to work for about two weeks now with no luck. i need your help!

thanks as always!

the swear filter does not work...i dont know why. but i created the global folder in the maint spearhead folder and deleted all the rest from all the pak files and finally got it work. i figured if its only got one to work off of it would have to work then..and to my surprise it did...BUTCHER

Sorry, but I'm confused by your statement. Are you saying that after you deleted the localization.txt file from the pak the swear filter started working?

please say that again! did you delete the localization.txt from the pak2.pk3 file and use the modified localization file with the swear filter in it in the global dir?

okay i tried it.

i deleted the localization.txt from the pak2.pk3 file in the mainta directory, copied the edited version to the global dir, fired up the server and nothing. no MOTD and no swear filter . . .

did i miss a step or something?

Well the localization.txt seems to be alittle more "local" in Spearhead than we all hoped for..

BUTCHERS way might work. I don't see why not.. But doing that with Spearhead will invalidate your pk3 files. So if sv_pure ever works right. That method would not work with sv_pure enabled.

Other than that.. You also need to make sure your not creating a new localization.txt on your harddrive in the correct path.
If you upload a modified localization.txt from your computers mainta\global folder to your servers mainta/global folder. Your going to get a false impression that it's working. Why? Because you have a copy of the edited localization.txt in mainta\global on your harddrive.

But that's useless since your the only one that's seeing it.

I've messed with this for several hours only to determine this:

SV_PURE is a toggle. In order for it to be a toggle, any files (.PK3's) that work with it must have 2 switches: SV_PURE on, and SV_PURE off.

Somewhere other than localization.txt, there is a file that is telling SPEARHEAD.EXE, and it might even be IN the .EXE, to default the localization.txt file. If you delete localization.txt from MOH\mainta\pak0.PK3, it STILL LOADS. If you delete both that one AND the MOH:AA one, IT STILL LOADS!

So somewhere in some hidden file is another backup copy that it's loading from. My goal is to find that, get the localization.txt info from it, find out the SV_PURE switch, and add it to my Spearhead Chat Filter.

PS: If it's SV_PURE capable, the localization.txt file, this means one thing: The chat filter is going to have to be client-side like skins. (NOT cool.) Hopefully, I'll be able to get it to load in a .PK3 once I get everything working.

So far, I've gotten no support from EA about this issue, including Chris Sheldon, our EA rep @ mohadmin.com who's been talking to us on Spearhead.

Exactly, there's some file somewhere locking everything for SV_PURE. That's gotta be it. And I could dig for hours through SH looking for it and come up with nothing. The only way to get this 100% would be to have a game rep give us the answer, which they haven't.

I haven't gotten a chance to look into it still. I'm going to send an email to Chris Sheldon and see if I get a responce.
