stalk the battlefield looking for good spots to set up shop.
try not to snipe at one guy when 3 others are in line of sight, bad idea, you're given away instantly.
never shoot unless you can hit, again with the flash issue,
and last but not least, don't stay in one spot too long.

Thats not really sniping. I call it assault sniping.
Sniping is such a lost art in this game. When I played it the first day, only me and one other person ever sniped. About the beggining of summer, everyone was a sniper. Better yet in servers there would be about 20 "Vassilli Zaitsev's" or "Jackson's".
The tactic you look for is a high place, decent cover and easy escape.

There is a difference between camping and defensive positioning. Remember, a sniper does not run around gunning down people like a common rifleman. He/She waits, patiently, concealing themselves. Your shot should come from nowhere. Also, the most kills you should get from any one position is 2. After that, move.
High ground is advantageous, but obvious. Other snipers will immediately sight in on a high ground position and will take you out. In SNIPER ONLY games that I play, no one gets into the church steeple or clock tower, it's suicide. Use the shadows. Many of the custom maps have good shadowing effects. Shoot from the back of a room, try to avoid coming up to the window. Like Stryker said, study the battlefield. Airborne's advice is also good. Watch your muzzle flash, especially on darker maps like Algiers. If you miss, relocate to another position as your muzzle flash has probably given you away, especially to another sniper. Also, play in many SNIPER ONLY games and learn from them.

move and shoot
strafe left and right looking for movement, when u see, bring up scope, stop moving for 1/8th of a second and shoot, then strafe and look for movement.

Sniping tips... -

If possible Snipe from a location where your muzzle flash won't be obvious...like the far wall of a room looking out through a window. Like a previous person said 'shoot' move (but not completely out of cover unless you've been discovered) and 'shoot' move again. Also, try to snipe in a location that has potential sniping spots all around...that way the others left won't be certain where you fired from.
Hope this helps.

Also don't shoot when a team of 8 float in front of you. Granted it's a dream too shot em, but chances are you'll MAYBE get off 2 guys before the rest of the pack discovers you.
Contrary to what Jedi said, I snipe in the church somtimes and do fairly good. It's just a matter of where you conceil yourself in the tower.

Well for sniping you have to develop your own "style" so to speak biggrin: . Actually no I just get carried away with the game too much.
Okay I will just help you out for the bridge. First if your allies run up into that sniper house. Go to the top floor and crouch next to a window. Lean into the wall and pistol whip the thing until the glass breaks. If you don't lean they can still shoot you from a narrow angle.
Then back up to the end of the wall and watch the road and the 3 sniper windows. Once a minute has gone by, look to the left door that leads to the stairs, down to the water. (its not really a door just an open entrance all the allies and axis always are nading it). If your team is still in sight forget about it and watch the other door in front of you that is already at water level. If you get bored go run around and cross the bridge. Oh if you still in the allies sniper house and you see a guy run under you, hes probably coming up. If your not a great sniper vs smg guy go downstairs. go on the street, take a sharp right and jump on the ledge. There you have a clear view of the stairs he went up and will probably go back down. Hope that gets you started cool:

haha thats pretty funny. in my mind there are two kins of snipers. one the actual sniper that loves his hiding spots, even if he takes a kill or two from there. thats all he ever plays. hiding away, very coward like. the other is the actual sniper, more liek sharpshooter. hes the guy thats running around in halls, dueling with smgs on a constant rate. that to me is real sniping, not just hiding away.
