Default Help with ladders! - 12-22-2002, 02:48 PM

I can not for the life of me create a working ladder in a map I am building with MOH Radiant. I have followed several tutorial but get nowhere.

I am sure I am doing everything right, but perhaps I am doing something wrong when setting the angle with the 'N' key. What angle should is be as some say 90o and some 180o.

Thanks!

Your angle depends on the ladders orientation to the world...more or less. If you've put a 'player start' into the map, take note of the direction that the white arrow is pointing out of the yellow box....this is 0 or 360 degrees (unless you changed it for some reason). Now, find your ladder. If you are looking at the rungs, what is your orientation to the player start? If you're looking the same direction as the player start arrow, then your ladder should be set at 0/360. Opposite is of course 180. Then you're down to either right 90 or left 270 degrees. Takes a couple times but soon you'll find your orientation easily.

Note that you also should set angles for any doors that are to open 'away' from the player. If they are not 0 or 180 degrees/facing the same way as the player start, then you need to give them an angle of 90.

Also make sure that your ladder clip overlaps the rungs by a couple units, mine are usually 2 units over the rungs.

hi,

1) make your ladder with brushes oOo:
2) Texture it oOo:
3) make another brush with the purple ladder texture (textures-common)
4) place the brush right before your ladder
5) select the purple ladder brush and click right mouse in 2d view....then go to function (func) and select ladder!!
6) hit N (while purple ladder brush is selected) and try the angles. Just keep trying with the angles till they work. Check http://users.1st.net/kimberly/Tutorial/ladder.htm)

7) try it out after compiling
8) good luck

Greetz,

Also keep in mind that the angles that you see in the entity window are relative to the "xy top" view in radiant.
So if you are in the xy top view, your angles are the same as the direction on your screen.

Thanks for the replies guys, but I still can't get it ladders to work!

If my player spawn arrows always start to the right and my ladder is a quater of a turn to the right, then that makes it 90 degrees in the func_ladder area doesn't it? Doesn't work

Ok, just to rehash a little..

1. you have to siderails....
2. you have rungs somewhere, mine are 16-32 units apart, doesn't matter.
3. you applied a full height common/ladder brush that overlaps the rungs by a couple units....
4. you right-clicked with the LADDER texture brush highlighted...then selected 'function/ladder'.
5. you set the angle.... how you describe it, it should be 90, but try 270 also.

6. if this doesn't help, I don't know what is wrong... actually, destroy the beast and start over just to be sure.
