SERVER RECOMENDED SPECS

Hello all

I am looking at building a computer for a dedicated server. I have recently been given permission from a local state University to put it on their network, so network bandwidth should be great. I am starting off with a AMD 1 gig socket A processor. I am looking for suggestions as far as what Mobo chipset recomendations and minimmum ram recomendations I should go with. I am thinking a cheap kt300 Mobo with 256 DDR 2100. Any and all imput would be appreciated.

Well, most AMD processors today only run on 1 chipset brand - Via. So, a well known type is the Via Apollo.

As for RAM, for a ded. server, you should have at least 256MB, but 512MB is recommended.

What you posted is fine, but just remember, the cheaper you spend, the less value you get. If you can afford it, go for an Asus mobo.

I spent only about 500 bux on my ded server. Intel P4-2.0 ghz cpu, 512mb PC800 RAMBUS ram, Asus PT-4E mobo, 1 gigabit nic. Server had about 38 players with very little or no lags. Too bad its down ATM

, still trying to find a home for it.

i believe nvidia makes amd chipsets as well as amd themselves but via is who I am most seriously considering.

also, price is a serious consideration.

I would consider intel but I have an amd 1 gig 266 fsb athlon just lying around.

I personally like the Intel 850 chipset for RDRAM, but if you are set for going for VIA and AMD, go for it.
