01-06-2003, 04:18 PM
Ok, I have a project that is called
"Technology. Socity, And the enviroment"
I was given the Palm Pilot, Now what I have to do is research on how it is related to the three points in the title, I know Technology but Socity and Enviroment I am stumped and I have tried contacting Palm Pilot companies but they turn me down for information, so I am turning to you guys, and once I get all my info I have to put this into a Microsoft Power Point project. thnx alot guys.

For society, it has changed how people function. Instead of a paper address book, date book, notepad, etc., they can use the Palm for all of those functions in one thing that is more functional than the original items individually.

Environment: they have to pollute to make them. The quantity of pollution
is likely going to be the same as factories making products you would use
if the Pilot didn't exist and trees would be cut down as well; however, the
Palm is more convenient, and therefore, the lesser evil. Less paper, less
cutting of trees, better for the environment in a way...
Wrote this in 2 minutes so it might be erroneous: use at your own risk biggrin:

Say your doing research for the local news paper. Make a fake newspaper ID card, flash it quickly, and talk fast.

Environement - less paper = good, more batteries, lead and mercury = bad
society - more efficient, more info at our finger tips, less personal interactions, less reliance on social skills.....I dunno, but its as good a place to start as any....

for the technology:
palm pilots, revolutionize the way we think, and act, mssgs r free, andu dont have to be at a computer to send them, it can keep ppl organized, and may trigger future inventions,
enviorment:
again like the guy says, saves paper, uses electricity, mercury, batteries, energy, but saves time, it pollutes to
society:
saves time, and ur energy, saves miney, loses some ppl jobs (post men) but gains others jobs (electronic engineers) helps ppl stay organized, and SAVES TIME, then thro infany stuff so they think u know what ur talkin bout

i would say it changed the way society functions cuz instead of carrying a calculator a cell fone and a camera and a gaming device, its all compacted into one portable thing. so in turn society spends less on small things and becomes more efficent at the same time. also make up some bs how it changed ur home life by allowing ur parents to work more efficently and your dad got a promotion after getting one.

Technoligy: In this day and age, digital media and electronics are on an uprise. Instead of using notepads or pens, people can electronically jot down information in this device and have it stored automatically, along with other items like a calender, games, memos, and even email/internet service.
Society: It's starting to become more rare to come across someone in a large city who does not own (not pwn) a cell phone/beeper. As much as this has become a regular "house-hold" item, the same goes for a digital organizer, a Palm Pilot. It has become a crucial part of a persons workstyle to have this electronic device on them wherever they go.
Enviroment: Where a Palm Pilot is used commonly, other portable devices such as cell phones, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), wireless internet, and even laptop computers are to follow. People have revolutionized themselves out of the past to become this civilization that depends on eletronics to hold their needs for them. The more we depend on the machine, the less thinking is required from us.
