Wierd Problem -

This might have already been around the forums, but I'm new here, so bear with me. Ok, recently I re-installed Windows XP Pro with the NTFS file system and all I get when I try to load up MOHAA (not spearhead) it is extremely slow and skips at the main menu the music skips aswell, but when I hit Alt Tab, the music and picture runs without skips in the background. I had Fat32 file system before, and this didn't happen. My drivers are all up to date...any ideas?
My System is
Gateway Performance 1500Mhz running build 5.1 of WinXP Pro
256MB RAMBUS PC800
Nvidia GeForce 2 Ultra AGP 4X 64MB
Sound Blaster Live!
Pioneer DVD-115 DVD-Rom
NEC 7900A CD-RW

Yes, I must agree with Pest, sweet sig.
Ahhh...NTFS bites. I set it as my HD format too, and it just caused problems for me. I ended up wiping the whole system and repartitioned with FAT32.
In your case, I'd try to reinstall MOHAA/SP. A total clean install, clean out the REG, get rid of the folder etc. If that doesn't work, I'd say backup your important files and nuke your system (that's like the second time I said to someone to nuke their system). Last resort obviously.

As Kyle's mom from South Park would say: "WHAT WHAT WHAT??!"
I have yet to have an issue with NTFS and any of my games. What I need to know is this: At the main menu, is the video lagging too? You can probably tell by looking at the fan in the room, if it's skipping, it means the video is too.
This can be any number of video issues:
1) You need to update Direct X to 8..
2) Your sound drivers could be conflicting with your video drivers.
3) The video drivers you are using may be beta or incompatible with your PC installation.
Theres some other things, but those are the main suspects. I find it hard to believe that NTFS would be the culprit here.

I guess it was some Aussie who first grew them.
Now you'll be smarter for knowing that......

I had a similiar issue, I updated to Directx 9 and the OS changed my Video Acceleration to NONE. After that I could not even change it back. I think it has to do with XP loving the whole driver signing thing. I would re-install directX and then your video drivers in that order. I would also jump back a nvidia driver version just to be safe.

Yes! The vid at the beginning skips, as well as the fan. But, I do have DirectX 9.0.

Then your graphics card is somehow either getting killed in gameplay somehow, or its conflicting with something else.
If you have another OpenGL game (Jedi Outcast, Quake III, UT2003) play them, and see if the same thing occurs.
