Default Worked with mohaa tools but need help still - 02-18-2003, 04:11 AM

I need to know a few things if someone can help. I can make basic rooms but the doors I use is either func or script one doesn't work and the one that does works is a sliding door. When I test how the map is doing the doors are twice the size the my characters view. I need to find out the minimum and maximum heights to. I can't figure out how to make a roof with and angle just a flat roof. I can't figure how to make windows that can be seen through and shot out. Is there a way to make the light source bigger? The light source I pick can't even cover a whole room. One last thing I don't know and the tutorials don't say, How do you make it an accual map after you are done with it. They just tell you to load in developer mode and how to load map but not how to make it in to an accual playing map. I know I am probably gonna get ragged on for asking so many questions. But someone please help.
By the way I think someone needs to write a more helpfull guide for beginners to make maps. The tutorial doesn't do much help. nothing is said about doors or sizes needed in the tutorial.

Place a func_rotatingdoor on the hinge of the door, around the middle of the door. Have the func_rotatingdoor selected and hit N. Enter alwaysaway for the KEY and 1 for the VALUE then hit enter. If it is a metal door, enter doortype as the KEY and metal for the VALUE. If it is wood, leave it alone. When you have added those values, hit N again. Lastly, make sure that the func_rotatingdoor has the ORIGIN texture. This can be found in the Common folder under the Textures Menu.

Thats a rough setup for a working door. Let me know if you need more detailed info.

Default still don't work - 02-19-2003, 04:19 PM

I don't see how put the func on the hinge, when I use orgin texture the map won't load says something about the bsp. And I want to know how to use a regular texture that looks like the wall(hidden door). don't help though if I can't get a door to work though. I had the door func work once but it slid sideways this was when I first messed with it. I am pretty much new at this and it has to be broke down a little better to understand how to do a door. Thanks for the help and anymore help you can give.

Ok let me see if I can help...

I just started mapping too and have had some probs as well. Im going to assume your using MOHradiant for your mapping.

Lets start with the easy part...If you want to make a hidden door all you have to do is chose the same texture for the door as for the wall you want to hide it on. The texture doesnt affect the operation of the door.

If I was you I would start from scratch with the door.

Delete it and start over (Just the door not the map).

Assuming you have done that, here goes...

Create the block for the door...

choose whatever texture you want it too look like...

decide which edge you want the hinge at and create another block there for the "hinge"...

If your door is one grid square wide and 6 grid squares long and 8 grid squares high create your "hinge" as one grid square wide and one grid square long and 8 grid squares high.IN THE SAME SPACE AS the first grid square of your door on the side that you want the "hinge" so that they look like one block...

Now make sure just the "hinge" block is selected and select the origin texture for the "hinge" (located in the "common" textures)

Then as MPOWELL1944 said: Again with just the hinge block selected Place a func_rotatingdoor on the hinge of the door, by right clicking on the map grid and choosing func-->rotating door Have the func_rotatingdoor selected and hit N. Enter alwaysaway for the KEY and 1 for the VALUE then hit enter. If it is a metal door, enter doortype as the KEY and metal for the VALUE. If it is wood, leave it alone. When you have added those values, hit N again.

Your door should now work.

Hope this help a bit more.

Default I still have problems with it - 02-19-2003, 10:36 PM

I followed what I was told but when I try to load the map it gives an error message. Error: Func_rotatingdoor:: set solidtype: solid_bsp entity at (cordinants) with no bsp model. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong there. I tried to place the door somewhere else but it still has the error. Should I try a new map just a basic room and see if it works? My other map works fine until I put the door in.

sounds like your setting the whole door as fuc_rotating door not just the "hinge" or your hinge isnt using the origin texture so its trying to make the hinge AND the door solid which wont work.

I double checked it and it looks like what you said to do. I was looking at the dos prompt when mbuilder was doing it work and it says entity 1 of type 'func_rotatingdoor' leaked. Now if I read the map site right it says to use caulk to seal leaks and I made the whole basic room out of caulk except the door but it still says leaked. could you send me a basic room with a functioning door so I can look at it? I know I am just missing something somewhere. The map works just fine until I put a door in.

The reason it won't load the map is b/c of the placement of the func_rotating door. Make sure it isn't touching any other brush but the door. This is a common mistake.

Actually I tried to post earlier but couldnt for some reason...As I told Knighthawk in PM, I was backwards on one part when I explained it to him. You have to select the "hinge" AND the door and then choose func_rotating door. (Thats what I get for responding from work not when I have it open in front of me so I can look at it)
