Both Afghanistan (1980s) and 'Nam were guerilla wars, not very indicative of the then conventional armies the US and USSR had.
(note that Northern Alliance destroyed most of teh Taliban before we got troops there in strength in 2001, no one knows more about guerilla warfare than another guerilla biggrin: )
