My regards to you father. My father passed away a couple years ago, I can't say that your father's death will be an easy one to cope with, but the best thing to do move on with your life and hope for the best. Godspeed.

Dont take offence, but I disagree with what your Father has said about the current situation. I will leave it at that.

My Grandpa, a WW2 vet, is still alive and he has the same views as your father does. My grandpa told me that in World War 2 He was proud to fight for the american army but he said he would never sign up to do something like this.

My Pa was also in WW2, with the AIF in the pacific. However, he died when i was five, so i don't really know any of his politics, which is quite a shame, since he was fairly astute on such matters

That is sad, sorry for you loss as well. My father was an is a major influlnce on my views on politics and war, He was very against the Veit Nam War, It wasn't until he was 80 years old, did he finally opened up and tell us how about the horrors he was part of in WWII.

My condolences Spark, you're a great son to a great man.
Jesus, imagine the guts it would take, to after all those years... to open up about tragic events that took place all those years ago... Spending nearly your whole life not being able to share those things with anybody...
When he passes, may he rest eternally in peace.
This may seem rather vain, but please, for everybody here, your family, yourself, everybody in the free countries of the world, tell him how unquestionably proud we are of him, and the sacrifice he made for us.

I know how insensitive this will be, but let's just play the devil's advocate:
most of the men who went to war DID NOT WANT TO GO but did because
they were forced to do so. Just because they fought does not make them
heroes. Yes, some soldiers did some pretty extraordinary things while they
were there, but most just went along and hoped for the best...
Again, this wasn't meant to bash anyone, but I felt it needed to be said:
just playing the devil's advocate...

Thanks for the condolences, Spark. I know what you mean about your father being a major influence on your views. Personally, i have been told by almost everyone who knew him that my Grandfather was a really good guy, so i've based alot of my morals and principles around what i believe he would do/think.
