SV_PURE ???

Why don't all server admins use sv_pure???

I know lots of people use scope patches etc, but wouldn't it be a lot better for all server admins to use sv_pure ... thus stopping a lot of cheats?

If all server admins did it then players wouldn't have a choice. I mean.... all thats happening is that the game is being forced to be played in its original state.

The worst cheat at present is the no recoil cheat (pk3 file based) it gives a player incredible accuracy. I have heard arguments that the animation is the only thing affected by the no recoil..... this is true but..... seeing as the animation makes the gun jump upwards and adding the no recoil patch stops that.. then it HAS to affect accuracy. I player from our clan (under agreement from all our clan members) did a test on our public server last night. His score went up at least 50%. He was winning everygame by 30 kills above anyone else on the server. (To be fair the player is an average->good player) but nothing like his score suggested.

With clan servers.. they can use patches they want and it wont affect others joining.

Additionally, we tried setting the server in PURE mode, with instructions on how to join in the game name e.g. "Remove all extra pk3 files from your game."

I sat there and waited and watch for 1 hour as everyone who joined got kicked right away. Well actually 1 PERSON GOT IN, I asked him and he simply replied that he'd follewed the instructions and got right in.

Is everyone not familiar with sv_pure or have mohaa got the thickest players on the net? (this is a serious question)

I assume that your talking about spearhead as to my knowledge there isnt this available for allied assault, if it was it would be fantastic.

Thats what i thought for SH, but no one will use it... and I find it very strange. What do you think?

Lack of education m8, more posts like this may well help any self respecting player who abides by the rules to ONLY join servers with this running.
If I played spearhead I would be in there straight away but alas..on my crappy specs my fps dies.
Maybe you should include your IP in your signiture or possibly a link for potential admins to go and see how to set it up and also maybe a little set of rules for the general public to see what they may and may not use.

FYI the our server doesnt run all the time in PURE mode at present (due to no one being able to understand how to join)

It'd help, yeh. It'd get rid of the petty cheat.

Sadly, it won't get rid of the more harsher hacks available that don't have anything to do with pk3s.

But, every little does help, you're right.

It just wouldn't eliminate cheats altogether, but what does?

By the way, the no recoil pk3 does work exactly as you say but it doesn't glean a 50% advantage unless you're seriously inept at mouse navigation over small distances.

If you don't know how to control your weapon then it will spread anyway, no recoil or not. Having no recoil simply means you don't know how badly your weapon is kicking at any one time unless you're close enough to the target to see the impacts.

The difference is there for some people, even if it's just a placebo, but it's so marginal as to not be worth cheating for. But that's just opinion.

I have to disagree with you there...

We have carried out tests and simply....

When the no recoil is applied the cross hair doesnt move at all!!

so a player instead of firing bursts to get accuracy gets "almost" the same accuracy when firing full blast all the time. It really is noticable. e.g using the tommy gun .... if you fire it full on for the full mag then the crosshair moves up the screen approx 1/2 to 3/4 inch with the no recoil apllied it doesnt move at all.... This HAS to affect aiming. If, as you are saying the bullets will still land in the same place then the whole aiming system would be screwed. as the crosshair should be 3/4 inch up the screen but its not.... thus the bullets would be hitting 3/4 inch up the screen but the crosshair would be at its original position.

And as for the 50% advantage... I beg to differ again. Most of the night our player didnt "cheat" and came 2 or 3rd all the time. Then when he changed he won easily by 30 points (every game)... the difference was VERY noticable.

Perhaps we have found a more advanced "no recoil" patch that the one you have tried??? (serious question)

But... i do agree with your "harsher" hacks. But then I suppose it may encourage others to defer from cheating. also it couild have the effect of stopping newer people cheating.. e.g if no "simple" cheats are available as soon as they start, then they may give up and just play the game.

We will have to agree to disagree then biggrin:

In my own extensive testing of the very same pk3 I felt it improved my play about 1% at the most.

Whilst I agree that it alters the game enough to make a difference (as I said) I really don't feel it does enough to improve someone to the point where they can increase their scores by 50%.

Firing an automatic gun at full whack still spreads enough that any hits you get are purely luck at medium to long range.

Firing with short bursts will improve your chances of hitting but that's with or without the no recoil.

I'd go so far as to say that I don't mind someone using it against me at all.

Either way it's still a cheat and by removing it with sv_pure can only be a good thing.

Oh one more thing, do you plan to play all the stock SH maps? Some of them are FPS-whores that I refuse to play.

If you removed those from the rotation I'd be glad to try your server out anytime.

Yeah.. been looking at removing a couple of laggy maps..... which ones do you have problems with?

Holland is a bad one for me.... can't think any others are bad enough to remove though...

Yup Holland is terrible and really isn't a good map anyway (it's very well presented and looks nice, nothing wrong with that, but it's boring as hell to play in).

The other one I can't remember the name to, only played it a couple of times. Yet again a great looking map but just too slow to play on. It's got an underground section, it's townlike and has a well in the middle, know which one I mean?

The others seemed ok, although all of the TOW maps seem laggy and too big.
