The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Offensive, was a planned "surprise" attack on the Allied forces by Hitler. He planned to strike in the middle of the defensive by creating a "bulge" in the resistance and capture key cities (Bastonge).

He failed though as the 101st Airborne Division got their before his Panzer divisions did. The well known "Aw, Nuts" response from Brigader General McAuliffe when the Nazi's demanded that they surrendered the city to them.

Uhmm... well a long story short, we planned a counter offensive that split the forces to the north and south and pinched the bulge and concentrated the Axis forces in a small village where they surrendered.
