Default PC Certifications? - 06-16-2003, 10:01 AM

Anyone planning on taking any, or have you already?

I'm currently looking in on the CompTIA Network+ certificiation. It's an entry-level certificate for people with 1 year or less of field expirence. Basically, it's essencials in networking, showing you the differences in types of servers, different types of setups for TCP/IP, etc. . . .

In case you don't know, certificates are basically just proof that you have expirence in that specific field. They range anywhere from router setups, network installation & troubleshooting, to Microsoft-based programs and technoligy. A college batchlorette for Computer Science is nice, but this is an extra bonus that makes you stand above college students.

I don't know about now, but a couple of years ago, certs weren't worth a donkey's fuck. Every man and his dog was MCSE certified.

Hopefully, the market is different now for techies.

That was back then though. You could study the guides and become a "paper" certified MCSE. They changed it now though. You can memorize the guides page for page and never pass the certifications. Now it helps to have experience along with book knowlegge to pass the tests. A+ certification is something I see alot of as a minimum requirement as well. Test at $120+ a pop makes sure you know your stuff.

If you want to learn networking enroll yourself in a Cisco Certified Network Associate course and take that cert exam when your done. Im currently taking the class and I've learned a lot so far. I've also taken a Comptia A+ course but i've yet to take the cert exam. These certifications can earn you $70,000+ a year right out of high school.

Even if he is found guilty of computer crimes, he won't be serving time in a
prison / penitentiary.

I was going to go for pretty much all my certs., but my boss is like why do that, you already have a job and the certs are basically just good to get your foot into an interview. I'm not planning on leaving my job anytime soon, so I said screw it.

Kewl. I'm glad they changed the process. I knew a few guys who were MCSE certified but were total drooling morons.

I just took the Comptia A+ test last month and was certified. Ten students from my class went and they are all incredibly smart when it comes to computers and only two passed... me and another kid.

They changed the tests to adaptive; meaning that when you miss a question on a certain subject on computers (let's say BINARY numbers) then they'll bomb you with more questions until you get it right.

Get all the certifications that you can, regardless if they mean "jack" or not, they are still good to have.
