If/when you have the full version, please respond to this topic.

I'm curious if the game has true 3D Positional Sounds.

The demo only uses Miles 2D and in 4 speaker mode there are no positional sounds.

Does the full version have positional sounds?

If you put the game in 4 speaker or headphone mode, do you actually hear things behind you?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, NO. One of the biggest dissapointments of the game for me. Here it is the year 2002 and this brand new game doesn't even have 3d positional sound. Still uses the miles crap. I've set it to surround and 4 speaker mode and it doesn't make a difference. Whatever you hear out of the front speakers is exactly what you hear out of the rear. What a joke.

i hear 3d sound in the sp demo, like when those tanks are burning you can hear them 3d when you go around, and footsteps too and when those guys are talking. Maybe you don't have your speakers hooked up properly.

miles sucks but lots of games use it cause its easier to code for than eax from what i understand.

3d sound is quite taxing on the cpu too. not everyone is lucky like me with an audigy that handles almost all of it

miles sucks. write the developers. quake3 engine does have support for a3d. i remember when carmack decided to use a3d instead of eax.

Course thats 2 years ago eax3 is basically both a3d and eax rolled into 1.

Actually A3D is now removed from the Q3 Engine - and it Aureal (SP?) who programmed it in, not ID.

It seems 4 channel sound hurts any CPU/sound card combination, but 3D Positional with headphones isn't so bad.

i find it hard to beleive a3d isnt in the q3 engine anymore. creative owns the rights to it and fully supports it. ithink even the old sblive cards can support a3d.

thats fucking bullshit. and 650$ for stereo is cheap, you must have bad stereos.

the retail game will use only stereo sounds, but you can enable all 4 speakers, but as the first dude said, you'll only get stereo sound out, no surround.

Id has removed a3d from q3 a couple patches ago, but games can use it if they want I figgure. Alice had a3d and eax support, and that was a q3 engine game. Unfortunately for A3d Aureal is gone and Creative isnt developing it further.

I tried to get an Audigy, but it just refused to run on my system, and I found creatives setup to be very bass ackwards. Perhaps someday thier drivers could be at least as good as the hardware, instead of the handicap to thier products it seems to be now. I bought a philips card instead.

I've set my sound to quad speaker in the demo, and ive gotten some pretty good 3D sound. Perhaps this is because I use a stereo attachment to my computer - no 4 piece multimedia speaker set - its a $650 Stereo system that is designed to produce 3D sound, but i would think that it would work the same on any speaker set? Maybe im wrong..

Either way, ill just use this time for some shameless self audio premotion, to cover up my crappy computer specs
