Default video card problem - 06-29-2003, 04:31 PM

I just upgraded my downstairs comp's video with a geforce4 ti4200 x8 agp, 128 megs mem. It is an improvement, but compared to the radeon 8500 128 meg card i have upstairs it is a pos when playing spearhead. Lots of little stutters. Unfortunately I can only run the card at 4X agp, but from what I have read, it should be flawless.
I am using the latest detonato drivers- 44.03- and have tweaked the hell out of the game to get it right. Is this normal, or is this card just not up to the game?
Any specific drivers I should be using?
Thanks for the help-

I personally perfer radeon but the gforce you got is a pretty nice card, but what the problem sound like is RAM deficiancy. To resolve this you couls A. upgrade to more DDR RAM or shut down some things before playing. i had the same stuttering when i put my new card in with SH. but i just shut things down and it worked fine. and also use the auto configure feature which is located in the MOHAA folder on your harddrive to get a start for the setting. then you can move them up or down from there

Thanks for the tips- I wound up reinstalling the games (moh and spearhead) and they are much improved. I'm running 756 megs (somewhere around there) of ddr ram, so shutting stuff down seems to be the most sensible solution.
I only went for the card as it was going for $130, full retail with a ton of software/games. My upstairs all-in-wonder radeon 8500 128 meg card beats it hands down for image and speed.

I appreciate the responses!

Mohaa is a processor hog. If your processor is lacking some MHz, that might be a culprit as well.
