part of the story :

In April, soft drink giant Coca-Cola pulled a promotional robot figurine adorned with what appeared to be Nazi swastikas following criticism from a Jewish leader in Hong Kong.

And in July last year Hong Kong coffee chain Pacific Coffee was forced to apologise after its stores used a quote from Hitler for is chalkboard "Thought for the day" spot.

trying to hide the symbol under the rug and acting like it never happened is absolutely the wrong approach. it did happen and that Nazi swastikas should stand as a constant reminder to us all to never let it happen again.

i think the saying goes ( lest we forget )

Lots of ppl dont know about the atrocitites commited by the Nazis and the Japanese military. I think the ppl there only aware of the Japanese war crimes and not the Nazis since they live so far from Europe.

I think you're missing the point.

The reason these things are causing such a stir, is because of the fact that they're being used for some kind of facist memorabilia...

Of course we shouldn't forget about it - it's kinda hard to seeing as the regime almost took out a race of people in Europe - but should it be remembered by being paraded around on toys and 'fashionable' t-shirts?

What the fuck? That's fucking stupid and disrespectful.

Even if the Swastika is going to be paraded around - at least wait until most of the people that died under its wrath, or died trying to wipe it out are long gone.....

...Far too many disgusting, brutal and horrible acts were committed in the name of the Swastika. It ruined far too many peoples lives. Accepting it in modern society is like spitting in the faces of the people who fought against the brutality that the symbol represented.....

Yeah but you guys are missing the cultural context. The swastika was adopted from a Budhist symbol and just inverted. So a "swastika" that is standing up straight, ie not twisted on its side a few degrees is an ancient Budhist symbol.

I saw that figurine too and it was clearly that Budhist symbol placed on it. It was taken down because I guess too many people thought it was out of place.

But that Nazi clothing store is just stupid and dissrespectful.

Yes, the Nazi Symbol came after the creation of the buddhist symbol. So its also ignorant for a person to say that a buddhist symbol to be taken down because it glorifies the Nazis.

You've got a point. The Japanese made hitler look like a wuss. They killed more chinese than hitler killed jews. And then Mao did much the same, but like stalin, he did it to his own people. Its also said he had a thing for 14 yr old girls. These are things the west tends to ignore because they happened so far away.

Hrm. . .well, I guess if you don't practice in their beleifs, it's ok. I mean, we wear t-shirts like the ones at T-Shirt Hell, then what's wrong with a symbol like a swatistka.

Who's gonna know whether or not your practice the beliefs?

It's straight up fucking disrespectful to Veterans, Germans themselves, Jews....Why push the boundaries that far?

....Jeez, I thought some of you guys knew better.

This issue needs a gradualist approach. The swastika will slowly get more accepted. It will always be connotated with very bad things, but there will be a lot less outcry in a few decades....

So, seeing as its so very morally wrong to have nazi fashion, is it not therefore also wrong to allow people to play the role of germans in computer games?

no because they're not all nazis,
now if there was a game where you play as SS, that's very different
