I am experiencing very choppy gameplay and significant slowdown, especially when enemies are near or some other action is taking place. So much that playing the game is impossible.

System specs:
Sony PCV-RX550
P4 1.5 GHz
512 MB PC-133 DRAM
400 MHz Front Side Bus
60 GB ATA/100 HD
40X CD-ROM
i.LINK (IEE 1394)
Intel 845 chipset
Nvidia GeForce2 Ti
Soundblaster Live! 5.1
Windows XP

I have updated my video (Rev. 23.11 Detonator) and audio driver (Rev. 2) to current revs. I haven't updated my motherboard driver yet (Where do I find what motherboard I have? Where would I find this driver? Would this be the same as the processor driver?). This is very disappointing, especially since I have a high end (relatively speaking) system. Any possibilities this is XP related?

If anyone has the answers, I'd appreciate it. I also have these problems on RTCW!!!

hey dude, download this thing, i dont have a link but its called SiSoft Sandra 2001te standard. sorry i dont got a link but try and search for it at zdnet or cnet.
A bunch of people post the link up in here so just look for it. It can tell you everything you need to know about your computer.

Setting you HD settings to a single size will help. Also defrag your drive before running, and make sure that there is nothing running in the background, I.E. Winamp, real player, direct cd etc.. shut it all off.

Also, to fix the sdram issue, you actually have to buy DDR RAM and put it in. SDRAM running on a 133 MHz bus will transfer data on the rising edge of every clock cycle, therefore only once per clock cycle for a bandwidth of 1.05 GB/s, DDR RAM on a 133 MHz bus transfers on the rising and falling edge of every clock cycle, therefore at 266 MHz for a memory bandwidth of 2.1 GB/s. The increase in horsepower is dramatic in memory instensive programs such as games (up to 40% increase for high mem applications). Note: your motherboard must support the DDR to use it.

Most machines will tell what board you have on the boot up screen. You just have to read quickly. Also do you have a Dell or HP or something, checking their web site for your machine name should tell you. Failing that, open the box and search the motherboard for a company name (i.e. ASUS, MSI, ECS (EliteGroup), etc...)
Go to the companies website and they'll tell you how to determine exactly what board you have, and what revision it is.

Thanks for the replies, but I've tried about everything and no luck. Are there any known issues with the Soundblaster Live! cards?

I don't think it's the game, because some folks are getting good framerates with lesser systems and I also have the exact problem with RTCW.

Any more suggestions?

I'm running an Audigy with no probs, but try backing your vid drivers back to Detonator 22.5 or 22.8. The 23.11's seem to have some issues with some people. The 23.11 driver runs about 12% slower on my machine than the 22.50

Im sure it is the game, ppl with great system are having unstable FPS.

Im running a prity nice system although its not the best.

TB 1,2 gig
Solteck SL-75KAV/-X mainBoard.
GF3 TI200 (at TI 500 speed)
256mb SDRAM.

Most of the time im gething 70+ frames a sec, but at points it falls down below 20.
Im sure it has something to do with the game.

I haven't seen my frame rate drop below 45, and I get as high as 85. Maybe it's the SDRAM you're running, half the bandwidth so can't keep up with high transfer needs when things get hairy?

So how to I fix the SDRAM issue? Also, I downgraded the Detonator drivers and still had the same issue.

I have a actual fix for you that will work. Hard Code your swap file. Right click on "My Computer" and go to properties then go to your virtual memory section. instead of Windows XP changing the size of the swap file set to to a min of at 800 and a max of 800, then it will always be set and will not resized during the game. Why do I think this will work, I had the same issue and my hard drive would read alot when playing the game "thus windows resizing the swap file". Trust me it works....
