A couple of reasons:

1.) They don't even know if he was telling the truth....He could've put the bomb around his neck (God knows why - might have been meant for someone else, later on), and it could have gone off by accident.

2.) I don't know about you, but if I had a remote bomb around my neck, I'd do what the guy who put it on me told me to do.
