i have a GeForce FX 5600 256mb card, but it wont run!!

yeah of course, and it comes up saying it is a GeForce FX, but only 64MB! is there anything i can do?

Screw auto-configure... it doesn't recognize more than 64MB of video memory. Go into the options and change the video settings there. The PC will utilize all of your card regardless of what mohaa thinks is there.

I have the EXACT same card that you do. Just restart your computer, go into the advanced chipset features in the bios and set the agp aperture size to 256....baddabing!

Aperture setting have nothing to do with what the card is read as. For a complete description of exactly what the apeture setting does... follow this link

I know it sounds kinda funky with "AGP" right in front of that point although it has nothing to do with agp settings, that is the right command in chipset features. TRUST ME, i've done this a lot before, or perhaps i could be totally wrong and i'm making an ass out of myself. Oh, my "AIM" name is "TheGaggler", i'm not on all the time so you might have trouble contatcing me. I just kinda dislike talking to some of the people on my list.

AGP Apeture tells the PC how much physical memory can be used for video, in addition to what you have for your card.

Three possible scenarios...

1....

You set the apeture too low, and your graphics do not meet maximum performance.

2....

You set the apeture too high, and the program does not have enough memory to run properly. Thus, not giving you maximum performance.

3....

You set the aperture just right, and everything works perfectly. Benchmark scores increase and frame rates are better.

1. Reboot your computer
2. It will say "Press delete to enter setup" at the bottom of the screen - so press delete
3. A blue screen will appear - this is your BIOS
4. Using the arrow keys highlight "Advanced chipset features" and press Enter
5. Scroll down with the arrow keys until you find AGP Aperture
6. Change the setting to 256
7. Go back to the main screen using the key it says to use at the bottom of the screen
8. Highlight and select "Save and Exit"

The PC will reboot again and the settings will take effect.

9. Run benchmark tests. write down your score
10. Go back, adjust AGP to 128. reboot... run benchmark... compare scores
11. Then adjust AGP as necessary. usually 2 or 3 tests will tell you the "sweet spot" for the AGP Setting.

The auto-configure on MOHAA only reads up to 64 meg for video. If your worried about what your pc picks up, go to:

Start/run/type "dxdiag" to see what your computer is reading your card at.

Inkman, what drivers are you using? Try d/l'ing the new 52.16's. They just came out yesterday and are known to fix quite a few probs with the FX series.
