Why are there Germans in the closets?

Right now, why do they hide in closets/dressers, whatever. Sometimes they do, sometimes not. They do however look kind of funny when they yell and fall out

They actually did in the real war. Any tactic to suprise their enemy. It's in a Stephen Ambrose book. I was very suprised and pleased when I say that in there.
