He banned a number of assualt rifles, mostly the "hollywood" guns, as well as made a number of items illegal when in certain configurations, like flash suppressors, short barrels, high capacity clips, folding stocks, etc. The practical effect of the ban was nil, because the things that were banned were for teh media, not for true control.

The ar15 did not fall under the ban, but any with folding stocks or anything listed above was deemed illegal if assembled on the gun. A friend of mine has an ar15 the is legal by todays standards, and he also has all the parts that are legal as long as they arent mounted. So he legally owns all the makings of an illegal gun. How can that be effective?
