Playing any online game in this day and time with a dial up connection is just a waste of your time, dial up modems suck.

I get incredibly high pings in this game, to the point where its unplayable. How do I get lower pings? In Counterstrike and Rogue Spear, I always got pings under 180ms, but in Medal of Honor, I get pings of 350ms and higher. I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out here.

Yeah, you don't have to tell me that they suck. Besides I'm about to move so I can't even consider DSL until I move to a new place. Are there any online settings that you can mess with, like Counter-Strike? I remember changing some of those settings in the config file helped me to cut off a few milliseconds.

I get High(er) pings also. But remember it is the server doing a shed load (a lot) of work for the clients. I have played many games on a 64K link which ran perfectly. 32 players or more. Perfectly.

It's the server that is crap.

Some of the servers you see listed are just guys like u or I making their machine a server (u can see this from looking at the players and one guy has zero ping). They want 10 players to join so they can frag everybody else, but THEIR machine can't cope with the cpu. Oh yeah, game still runs fine for mr hotshot, but we get lag (and die).

I have done lots of testing of this in the past week and I can say that good, dedicated servers are cool. 64K access not a prob, runs like its on a LAN. Pick a crap server, ppl just want you for frag counts

do you dial up to your isp and it makes funky noises? if you have a 56k modem, i suggest checking for DSL availability in your area, or Cable modem availability.
DSL is the way to go if you can get it.

Is it possible to play with only a 56k? I don't have the funds for DSL yet.

I say:
1. It depends on the connection you have with the server you're connecting to (other servers could yield a better connection).
2. It depends on the time of day (traffic wise).
3. It depends on your connection (56k ADSL, Cable).

What do you think?

Hmm, if your pings are lower in other games, well I don't know how to help there other than meybe to make sure your connection in the game is set correctly & meybe play around with your rate.

But you could make sure your port settings are optimal for your modem.

Go into device manager, then ports & change your com2 (or whatever port your modem is on)port speed from 9600 to 115200. Change flow control to Hardware. Then click advanced & set your recieve buffer to high. Then hit ok. Those are some minor adjustments that might help a little.

No, Coax, thanks for the setting tips, I tried them but I'm still getting disappointing pings. I think what Steel said is a part of the situation. MoH requires a lot of processing but most servers aren't built to host this game. Counterstrike ran fast on just about any computer out there.

Try closing every single running program except explorer and some other sound one, possibly use the in-game browser instead of gamespy cause it takes up 7% on my comp, not sure about of yours but try to make your comp run smooth when your on a 56k and hope for the best.

I got my comp about...4 years ago and I first had 56k dialup, I played lots of online games and I found when my comp didn't have any programs running the net ran smooth.
but no need to do that now, cable
