[quote="Cpl. The cold war basicly consited of the us developing a technology and the soviets attempting to steal it.
I think the plan was brilliant of the cia, they gave those thieving bastards what they deserved. And for those of you that doubt a computer program can't trigure an explosion....you must remember what the program was designed to do, in this case to monitor and control the release of gas valves at a petrol plant...hmm common sense dictates that if the software thats monitoring it goes kaput...then something bads gonna happen.

you fucking n00b,
the T-34's SUSPENSION was based on the Christie design,
but look at an original Christie tank and the T-34 and tell me anyone they are alike, they'll think you are blind. The T-34s innovation was it's sloped armor (when all POS kraut tanks looked like rolling boxes) and relatively big 76mm cannon (again while krauts used a 37mm AT gun and a 75mm/24 cal stubby infantry support gun).
The AK-47 uses a totally different mechanism than the STG-44.
What about the IS-2 and IL-2, who do you think those designes were "stolen" from???
Why exctly is anyone that praises Russian innovations a "commie lover"???
Do you know that one of the first 4 engine aircraft was designed by the great Russian plane designer Sikorsky, who later became America's premiere helicopter designer?

Eames ,
You are a little off-track there man.
Pick up a book called " The Main Enemy " By Milt Bearden and James Risen.
Pay close attention to a man named Adolf Tolkachev.
I think you will discover that Soviet design was two steps ahead of us the whole time until this Russian scientist stepped forward.
For instance :
In 1979 the US Air Force completely reversed direction on a $70 million electronics pakage for the F-15 to counter the MiG-29s advanced radar system.
Several Research and Defence projects were scrapped after Tolkachev's intel was provided to the Pentegon , because they were 5 years behind Soviet Technology.
The book also shows how the KGB had many counter-intelligence agents working through the cold war and eventulally eliminated every CIA agent in Moscow.
Awsome book.

The CIA agents in moscow were eliminated because of an american traitor who revealed all of their names to the reds.

just for the record,
I do sort of like the commies, why?
because without them as an arch-nemesis we would not have the science and technology advances that were the result of the Cold War.
Our government got its head out of its ass and funding the military and science properly after WWII and then for the Cold War.
If not for the Cold War most of our country would still be a bunch of religiously blissfully ignorant rednecks. It was the threat of the USSR that led to taxpayer-funded military developments which later led to private-sector technologies, such as PCs and GPS. In order to achieve and keep technological superiority the US spent much money on EDUCATION and SCIENCE.
We could go so far as to say that the Cold War averted WWIII, the Marshall plan (a counter against Communist expansion) rebuilt a Democratic Germany after WWII, rather than a punished and vengeful Germany like after WWI.
What I see now is that without a major nemesis (face it Osama and company are a marginal threat with hardly any technology and no technical expertise) our government (mainly Republicans) are content with giving the rich tax cuts and cutting education and programs such as the National Science Foundation (NSF) which gives grants for scientific and technological research. Unless we see another big bad foe (Red China maybe) we will regress from the number one spot in technology.

The flying wing design(Northrop's XB-35) was developed in the 30s roughly the same time as the GO-229 (though they got the GO-229 prototypes finished before the US did, the GO-229 was much less complicated then the huge XB-35 (and later the XB-36, with jet engines))
