Does anyone here know how to setup the network configuration for a Lynksys router? I am trying to hook up three computers to it, and the wiring was the easy part. Now I can't figure out what I have to do for configuring IP addresses.

I have tried changing everythingto DHCP and Static but, to no avail.

If anyone can give me some pointers from A-Z on what I should look at, I would appreciate it greatly. I am by no means new to computers but , lack some of the technical knowlege of networking (especially routers) to figure this out any further.

Thanks.

Well, if you are just routing the 3 computers, first of all (dumb, but missable) make sure the computers all have different names. If you have a connection coming in to the 3 as well thats being shared among them (DSL, Cable) you need to contact the provider, and ask for 2 more IP addresses to add to your account. Each computer usually costs $5. I'm not sure from there, that's my advise tho.

jus got a linksys - in my case(sharing dsl with 2 computers) the router auto detected my IP and then auto assigned two different ip's to the two computers i have hooked up to it. No need to contact isp for me. But i don't have static ip.

I still have the step by step quick installation guide that made it a 3 minute install.

what you need to do, is setup the WAN (IPS's network ) via dhcp ( they will provide you with your info) Very easy. Now you must setup your LAN ( private network ).
Setting this up via dhcp is also the easiest. You now just need to make sure all your computers under networking properties are setup for DHCP under TCP/IP settings.
And yes make sure all computer names are different and the workgroup name is the same. this way you can share devices and or folders from one computer to another.
If you decide to ever host a game (any) then I would setup one computer static ( IP does not change you set manually )
I kept burning up Linksys routers so I am not familiar with there new firmware and setup screens. but one suggestion.
You want to uncheck, manage from WAN ( will stop anyone from guessing your password and opening up your router for there benefit)
check off Block WAN requests. (this blocks all ICMP requests <pings> from the outside world. This way know one knows your there. Thus know one can try to port scan you or other do other bad things. This could hinder you posting your server on Gamespy or allseeingeye but I will have to check into this. People will still be able to connect to your FTP/WEB servers (if you allowed to run one but the IPS wont know because they can not scan your ports ).
