The German who killed Melish was an SS Soldier, as seen on his collar - the SS insignia. Steamboat Willie was a regular infantry soldier. They look alike xause of the haircut and almost similar uniform.

Plus, All Germans look a like, lol!

I agree. That scene really freaked me out man. Especially when mellish says something like "maybe we can work out something out". I think that's what he says.
