most of that stuff in regular labs here is denatured with methanol (a poison) or phenol (another poison); so it's 95% ethanol (booze) and 5% other stuff.
Organic chemists use the real 100% stuff though, because the phenol or methanol would make byproducts in a synthesis reaction that uses ethanol; so their ethanol is safe to drink.
