Truth being, on these type of evetns, the best way to dealing with them it to send the specialists in and clear the place out fast. People will die, but not 350 people.

LOL, i think you give up the right to live when you participate in something like that. I dont care if he shot anyone or not, hang him or throw him away for life.

The russian govt lost control of this so quickly. They should have taken bushes offer for help, rather than have putin play proud president (say that fives times fast). There would have been -50 casualties.

I don't think any soverign nation would accept another nation's help in a situation like that. What does that say? We're weak and we need your help because we can't do it ourselves. The russians aren't about to do that. Especially from the US. Of course US special forces would have raped the terrorists, but they wern't in the US.

Saying that is being a bit naive. Imagine the envirement the special forces soldier would be in. Hostages running around trying to get out, while terrorists are shooting at them. Parts of the school exploding. Terrorists attacking you with children as a human shield. Even the best soldiers, from any country, wouldnt be prepared for a scenario like that.

Lets leave well enough alone. Stop being armchair quarterbacks for fucks sake. That situation got out of hand because of all the bombs and confusion. It's a tragedy that no matter who was in charge, there would've been loss of life.

You're right.
But I do believe US forces would have been more prepared to handle the situation than their Russian counterparts.

It's just total chaos over there. If it had happened in North America or Western Europe, no one would have been allowed near the scene. The Russians had people in plain clothes running up with weapons. So if you're the army, how do you tell who is who? And do we even know if Alpha or Spetsnaz were involved? I think other countries are much more prepared for this type of thing.
Anyway:
[quote:6076a]Russia lied to public on scale of crisis

Says it downplayed hostage numbers
Washington Post
Sept. 6, 2004 12:00 AM
MOSCOW - The Russian government admitted Sunday that it lied to its people about the scale of the hostage crisis that ended with more than 300 children, parents and teachers dead in southern Russia, making an admission through state television after days of criticism from citizens.
As the families of Beslan began to lay loved ones to rest Sunday, the Kremlin-controlled Rossiya network airedgruesome footage it had withheld for days and said government officials had deceived the world about the number of hostages inside School No. 1.
The admission of an effort to downplay the magnitude of a crisis that ensnared about 1,200 people, most of them children, marked a turnabout for the government of President Vladimir Putin. In previous crises with mass fatalities, such as the sinking of the submarine Kursk in 2000 and the 2002 siege of a Moscow theater, officials covered up facts but never acknowledged it.
The broadcast included no apology and referred only to the most blatant misstatement, the claim that only 354 hostages were inside the school.
