2015,
In all of the screen-shots that i've seen with an MG42 (granted, not many) the MG42's are on the standard Bipod. Will you have the 'fixed' MG's o lafette mounts?
For those of not in the know:
As you can see in the photo, when in a stationary position (Bunker, pillbox, trench, foxhole, etc) the MG (all from the MG13 to the MG42) would be placed on a heavy tripod called a lafette mount. this effectively transformed the MG from a 'light' machine gun into a 'heavy' machine gun. it allowed the MG crew to sight-in the entire field of fire, through angles, distance, etc, so they could accurately pinpoint an enemy in just about any location.
Any way, I'd love to see a german team using one of these as this would be the method that you'd be facing in a majority of the levels dealing with taking fixed objectives.

we actually just talked about that today funny enough . I just finished up writting a script for controlling guys manning MG42s and a spotter, pretty cool looking so far.
But alas, just the bipod. We we're going to use the lafette mount (I actually requested it at one point , but a lot of work has gone into making it look right with the bipod, and a lot of that work would have to get duplicated and redone / tweaked if we were to add the lafette mount. So just the bipod.

Well go here: www.atthefront.com they are where most of us get our uniforms and equipment, 90% of it is reproduction stuff, but identical to original. We also get the real stuff from europe, one of our members runs a small business that brings artifacts back from across the pond. As for weapons, they are all out there, Mausers are REALLY cheap, usually no more than $150 at a gun show or by private sale. The MP40's usually run between 5 and 8 thousand bucks but as they are an automatic weapon, they have to be registered with the ATF, and you have to have a class 3 liscense. As for the MG42's (we are getting our second one this month!) they run up to $20000, and you have to have a liscence and go through the ATF, as with all automatic weapons.

How do you "historical re-creationists" get your hands on all this weaponry ? Also, do you have to make the uniforms yourselves ?
A crazy old man in our street just bought a BREN gun carrier and a narly 25mm cannon, I'd really like to know where he got them, but I'm too scared

If you search on the internet, there are certain companies that specialize in re-enactment gear (uniforms, weapons, equipment, etc....). Plus I think the real gung-ho guys actually go and hunt down the authentic stuff (look on ebay, auction sites, weapon dealers / collectors, etc...). Some of that stuff is very expensive. I know Justin here was looking into some of the uniforms that the Rangers wore, and it wasn't cheap. Plus one of the guys here has a relative that's a class 3 weapons dealer (fully automatic and historic firearms that is , and he was able to bring in both an M1 Garand (I believe his was a replica), and an authentic, from the war MP38 (the predecessor of the MP40 . Both were working weapons (we didn't fire them of course . He said that the MP38 alone is worth like $10,000 at the least, if not more. Now I'm sure you could find a cheaper replica that maybe only fires blanks, or doesn't fire at all, but for the real stuff, that's pretty hefty .
I have a friend back in Chicago that's a gun-collector (where a lot of my weapon knowledge comes from and he has an authentic Walther P-38, with the Nazi war stamp on it (it was actually used in the war). Last time we went to the range before I came out here he let me put a clip through it. Interesting pistol, innaccurate as all hell, but it was an experience . Plus I got a chance to go shooting with one of the programmers that worked at Rogue several months back, and he's got a Colt .45 from 1938 (didn't know if it was used in the war or not).
And of course, you can make your own stuff if you got the skeelz . But if you got the money and the resources and know where to look, you can hunt it down

Elmagoo - You say you just had made the Mg-42 Team in the game? How do you have them setup? Realistically speaking, the team would be either an integrated part of a normal rifle squad of which the rifle squad was actually based around. Or they would be a part of a six man heavy machine gun team.
Here is the layout for the Heavy Machine Gun Team.
The Team Leader whom is a NCO leads the team. He is equipped with Binoculars, Pistol, Map Case, Mp-40 with respective pouches and equipment.
The first of five gunners assigned to this team is the main gunner of the weapon. He is equipped with the MG-42, a gunners pouch, E-tool, bayonet, pistol, and binoculars. Also, on his person, there is a starter belt of fifty rounds in the weapon if ordered, and a additional one hundred to two hundred rounds draped around the neck.
The Second gunner is as equipped as the first, but he has no binoculars, and is carrying boxes of two-hundred fifty / three hundred rounds each instead of a MG-42.
The Third Gunner would carry the Laffete mount, although, it is somewhat common not to of been supplied one. He would also be equipped with a rifle and normal rifleman's equipment.
The two remaining soldiers would be carrying rifles and ammunition boxes for the Machine Gun.
When in combat their man duty was to give supporting fire for advancing units, then advance to better positions and hold those untill ordered to either advance or withdrawal.

Going back to the start of the topic, this is just an "easier on the eye" picture than the Burgens was (no offense)...
Also Wookie, I get most of my info from a British magazine published during the '60's (thanx Dad) "History of the Second World War", Very informative...
