AA.com game server news and update -
08-08-2002, 06:43 AM
Well first let me say
You don't know how much you will miss something when it's gone. It's nice to be home.
Thanks BS for getting the board back up looking forward to the new server and it's speed.
I have updated the aa.com game server to include several things
Obj/TDM mixed maps - all your favorite maps in one rotation. Both obj and TDM. Hopefully we will be adding some new maps once Dodd starts posting again.
Skins - check out mohaa.xgshosting.com for a list of skins loaded on the server. You can also download them there.
Chat filter - This has to be one of the best server tools since Autokick. Bazooka_Joe and RedSoccerDevil has created a swear word filter. Coming soon to AA.com, once they get the news back up. This filters out any swear words, people try and say on line.
This was just an quick game server info thread.
It's nice to be back!

Hi Rudedog,
Just to let you know that if you put .pk3 files to download without zipping them, then Windows usually adds a .zip at the end of the filename when you download it, so it looks .pk3.zip
I've had problems in the past with that, cause people downloaded my .pk3 mods and then unzipped them (yep, it's lame) on the main folder, which creates a lot of folders (i.e.: maps, textures, scripts, models...) which were supposed to go into the pk3, and makes uninstalling the mods a lot more difficult to novice users (if they remove every folder then they remove all the mods installed like that).
Also, it's a good idea to have custom skins to download (I do that too on my server  ), but you should add more axis skins IMHO. Also, combat_manon and panzergrenadiersniper can be problematic, as any skin based on either manon.skd and german_winter2.skd - It's not a skin fault, those skeletons don't work well and weapons appear in odd positions to users who don't have the custom skins installed. I had a thread on it, but it get lost on cyberspace when the server changed.
Regards, and glad to see aa.com back

Thanks, yochoylamuete
To be honest, I'm new to the skin Sean. I have never really used them, until someone asked and I thought what the hell. Would be a nice addition.
Right now I'm only adding skins when people request them. I will also look into the other concerns you brought up with combat_manon and panzergrenadeirsnip. I will remove them for now.
Thanks for the helpful info.

I've never had it add .zip for me, but I have hide file extensions for known types turned off, maybe that is it.

Just to follow up on Rude, we are going to release the 1.0 of the script ASAP. I'm going to email Dodd about it as soon as I get home, and his next M/M/S update hopefully will contain it, along with my latest release of my bazooka mod AND the smoke nade mod that me and Ktog worked on.

Some minor comments...
The .zip added to a .pk3 file happens on Win XP (home) and Win 2000 pro, as far as I know. I downloaded the Navy Seals skin just to try it and it happened again. I'm not sure about other OS's, though...
About the issue with skins, I extracted allied_manon.tik and allied_manon_fps.tik from pak0, I renamed them both as allied_manon2.tik and allied_manon2_fps.tik and packed them as a custom skin (nothing else was changed but the name). I installed them on my computer, started a non-dedicated server, and picked allied_manon2 as my skin (of course the model was manon herself, same textures and skeleton). Then I joined the game from another computer which didn't have the skin installed, and thats it, the first player was seen as the usual US army model, but he was pointing his bar up to the sky . Same thing about german_winter2, but weapon appears on a different (and wrong) position. Maybe it's an issue with the spanish 1.11 patch, but I think is not, since I've read reports from non spanish users about the very same problem.
On a side note, I think mail notification is not working for the forum (I received no mail about your answers), but that's a minor concern. I'm so glad to have aa.com back... :P

The skins go in the MOH\main folder, not just the MOH folder.

Yeah, I downloaded all the maps form Rudedogs site and it added .zip to the files and I started unzipping them and I knew something was wrong . So I just unzipped them all to the "Main" and let the game sort it out .... They all worked.

You should just be able to rename them pk3.Don't try to unzip them

Oldguy,
After unzipping a map with a .pk3.zip extension, you should have at least a new folder on your MOHAA\main called maps, but probably there are more (music, scripts, textures, ui). The only folders that should be there are:
configs, save, screenshots, sound, video
(unless you're using the map editor, that is)
The mods installed like that work perfectly, but the problem with installing them that way is that should you need to uninstall just one of them, you should look in every folder to delete the appropiate files, which can be a real (and confusing) pain. My advice is remove every folder not in the above list and then copy the .pk3.zip files to main and remove the .zip part of his name. You may move the offending folders to your desktop instead of delete them, so that you don't lose any mod unexpectedly.
Sorry if I said unzipping them was lame; actually, many of my clan members did that
Hope it helps...
