Spotted this, maybe it'll help some people out.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What worked for me was a defrag and add/change these options in the config file:
cl_forcepreload "1"
sv_forcepreload "1"
cl_smooth "0"
That did it for me, game runs perfect now.
But i also hear about memory settings that fix some issues for some people:
"Getting the game to load as much of its self into memory as possible also helps a lot; to do this, right click on Half-Life 2 in steam and select properties, then click launch options, put in "-heapsize 256000" without the quote marks. For the number, choose half your total system memory, in the examples case, its for a system with 512megs ram, you should use 512000 for systems with a gig of ram."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I first ran CS:Source I had this graphics stutter problem that alot of people had, if you have it, make sure you change the 'cl_smooth 0' option. If you don't want to mess with files then go in the CS menu > Keyboard > Advanced > enable dev console. then during play open it by pressing the '~' key above Tab and entering: cl_smooth 0

Its so unusual for a game to deliver on the hype, last game i think that almost accomplished it was allied assault, but even then i think most of us were bummed out at how omaha ended so it was a good game but that detracted from it a bit. Pacific assault is a good game, but you compare the level of physics interaction in it and halflife 2 is still a hell of a lot more interesting to play. Just so many things you can do to kill enemies in hl2, i think the sp alone could be played through numerous times before getting bored of it.
As for the multiplayer, theres rumored to be a halflife deathmatch in the works for hl2. Don't really know how that would work though, if people are expeting the same level of physics interaction as in sp theyre gonna be dissapointed, i don;t think thats do'able.

Im starting to think the audio stutters accompanied by the slight pauses are an engine bug. Was checking out the older e3 videos, when the g-man is giving his start game speech the game glitches when he says "again". In one of the vids when a level is loading up you hear the audio repeating a few times then the level loads. Also when you play hl2 usually these hitches are triggered by you opening a door to a new area on the map that you previously couldn't see, in all the e3 videos this never happened. I dunno if its a bug in the engine they couldn't fix or what but its been around since e3 2003.
