elstatec your comp is good enough to run HL2, a Ti 4600 can run it at high settings (0x AA/AF) with around 50 fps.

You go through a couple of those rooms and then outside to the right theres a barrel you shoot, it releases some kinda wooden log thing that swings down and opens the doors so you can continue on the boat.

Halflife 2 is better than doom 3, in terms of the engine i think doom can be expanded on a lot, people seem to think the doom engine is only good for small enclosed corridor shooters, theres no way iD would cripple a gaming engine and scare away companies that would want to liscense the engine by doing that. Source engine will top out graphically quicker than doom 3 id say.
