That and if you're taking damage on the airboat the hands would have to react as if you're in pain, then you have the problem of steering as the pain animations are playing which would involve the handlebars moving as if hands are controlling them.

Dunno why this is such a hard concept to grasp, if the hands were to be visible on the handlebars and you were taking damage you'd expect the hands to give some kind of indication damage is being taken, twitching in pain or whatever.
