Default experienced mappers please help - 08-12-2002, 09:33 AM

I am having trouble reducing my fps in certian parts of my map "harbourtown_beta", i have got the fps down generaly by using some fog. But there are two main area's which i can't seem to get it down which is around two bombed buildings.
So if there are any of you experiened mappers out there that wouldn't mind taking a look at my .map file and pointing me in the right direction i would apperciate it and of course give you credit in the final release.
Thanks
Craig

The three things I can think of right now:

-add caulk to every surface the player can't see
-leave one tiny bit of space between an object and another object (a box and the floor forexample, the box should "float". If you use a tiny space the player can't see it)
-when two brushes meet like this:

_________

Create a "triangle" effect. Use the vertex tool (press v, you can also press x, it'll work too). It's hard to describe, something like this:

_________
\ _________

Mmm...I don't have any pictures of this. Maybe you understand what I mean.

Actually, you dont have to make the box float, you just make it a detail brush.

Since the buildings you are describing sound like they are made up of many polygons, making them detail brushes also might help...

Additionally, where you place the buildings is important - and what is visible at any one point to the play is important with performance. Check around for tutorials breaking down vis blocking, hint brushes, etc... They will help you figure out how to get more frames out of your map

and read that website:>

I have read that site already and also tried increasing the blocksize by adding key:blocksize value:2048 in the world spawn, but it didn't seam to enter properly. Is that th corect way for Moh cos that site is for rtcw
