Phantom of the Opera (Movie) -
02-07-2005, 09:24 PM
Okay, so...
I've seen this movie twice now. Saw it while I was in Virginia on the first opening weekend (select cities in December) and then again when I was at home in South Carolina (everywhere in January).
Some of my co-workers call me a homo, wtf ever.
This movie is fecking awesome in my opinion. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a genius.. he writes awesome storylines and the music is incredible as well.
Stack Emmy Rossum's hotness and the fact that everyone (sans Minnie Driver, who played her part perfectly) sings their own part and that equates pure ownage to me. Also, the Phantom was pure ownage. Michael Crawford was a better singer but this guy sounded much creepier and demented. And much less feminine.
I'm just curious what everyone else thinks about the movie.

In my opinion, Andrew Lloyd Webber's music is not very creative or gives a lasting impression. Alot of it is annoying rock beats put to classical music...i dunno. It's just my opinion on the guy.

I haven't seen it, nor do I plan to. However i'll tell you that i'd much rather see this film than Boogeyman, The Wedding Date, Are We There Yet? or Hide and Seek, whcih were the top 4 monies this weekend.
I check what made the most money over the weekend sometimes, and I cannot fathom why people go to these shitty hollywood movies. I just don't understand why anyone would go to these sub par movies, when Million Dollar Baby, Sideways and The Aviator are all playing, and are all critically acclaimed. I know that if I went to one of those films, i'd enjoy myself. I know that if I went to the abve 4 movies, i'd probably leave. Why do people pay $10 to watch shite?

No clue. I'm not usually one much into the "hip" movies, or whatever. You go to a movie like Boogeyman and you're surrounded by loud, obnoxius 12-year olds.
I will, however, break down and see Hitch this weekend. For some reason I've never seen a Will Smith movie that I hated.

How does the Oscars not nominate jim Carrey or the movie he just happened to be in and the movie which should be best picture?

I was actually the phantom of the opera once for halloween. maybe i should go see the movie.
As for hitch, i have no desire to see that. Cool black man, lame white man. The only other thing that thye could have come up with was black man = drug dealer, white man = cop.

Jimmy would have been a better Phantom.

Seriously though. If your co-workers are making fun of you for being a homo, you should probably kill yourself.

Are you talking abour Eternal Sunshine? If so I completly agree. He was absolutley amazing. Everyone thinks jim carrey can only do comedy, but his performance in that movie was unbelievable. I don't know what he has to do to get nominated.
as for the movie itself, it should have been nominated for best picture, and michel goundry should also ahve been nominated for best director. he did an amazing job. and of course andy kaufman with his amazing script. this is why i don't watch award shows. i'm sure the movies nominated were great, but there were a lot of great movies out there. too bad all of them can't be recgonized in some way.

No. I live in Calgary which is a long way from New York. You're probably talking about the traveling show or whatever they call it. I think I recall a number of shows coming this way in the past, but i've never been.

It sucked so bad compared to the play.
Shitty acting. The Phantom couldn't sing for shit either.
