I don't think there needs to be a monthly fee or anything like that. Just donate what you can, when you can.
I think what we can do, though, is open up a PayPal account for donations. We can use the funds to pay for game servers first, applying any remaining dollar amounts to the webhosting.
After building up a good reserve account for hosting services (i.e., three months worth of webhosting, three months worth of game server hosting) we could apply the additional funds to prizes for community members and advertising to keep the community alive.
I also think it's important that if/when someone takes over the site, said individual is able to finance the site sans any donations in case they are slow rolling in. Just my further two cents.

We definately need to keep this site open, donations towards the gameserver and webhosting is definately a good idea. I'm able to contribute something towards the upkeep of GF1!
I am also willing to contribute my services towards part of the upkeep of the site (working on updates etc) should it be needed. GF1 is my home it shouldnt be shut down cry:

If all this does go forward and we actually get someone to take over BS' place, we should think of some way to attract more people to this site ... some way of advertising it so we can get more members to keep this place up.
More members = more money for GF1 is what I'm thinking.

I've checked out traffic estimates, etc. I've also contacted two webhosts about the site.
It can be hosted differently than it is now without much difference in the way it runs and for less than $200/mo.

it depends man, if you only pay $30/month for example, and the site i say usually has more then 30-40 people on it at any given moment, it will run like a peice of shit for everyone because you dont have near enough bandwidth. the reason why bs payed so much is for the bandwidth, and i can almost guarantee you wont get the same performance, actually not even clost with any less then $150/month. that is to say with 50 people on at once
edit: like right now, 63 people are online. if he had lower bandwidth, it would take a few minutes for each page to load.
